Gardening Workshop.

Many people don’t want to hire a gardener. They want to do it themselves as it can be a deeply personal project. But where to start?

Whether you’re a first-time buyer, a second-time buyer owning your first ever slice of green space or suddenly entered into retirement thinking you’ll give it a go we can help you. This is a one-off 3 hour session on a Saturday morning in the privacy of your own garden. To be clear this isn’t a course and there is no formality. The aim is to give you half-a-yard to give you a little confidence. This will be enough to make your garden look respectable. However, it may trigger a lifelong passion in gardening that you may want to take further with an expert course or qualification. If this is the case we can make a recommendation (read on).

The outline below is broadly what we’ll go through in three hours. It’s a guide and we can dial up or down the areas more relevant to you.

  • A simple test to understand the type of soil you have in your garden and how you might want to use this in plant selection and ongoing maintenance.

  • How to avoid injury in the garden and recommended protective equipment.

  • How to get the most out of your garden. Time to talk and help you to think about what works for you.

  • Based upon our discussion ideas for which plants you might want to consider in your garden.

  • The basics on how to care for your lawn throughout the year. This applies whether you want a space for kids to play or a perfect ornamental piece of greenery.

  • The dark art of pruning made accessible and easy to apply.

  • Weeding techniques, recommended tools and tips to make it easy (well as easy as it can be).

  • How to look after and maintain your tools from cleaning to sharpening.

  • Ongoing support after the day by keeping in touch on WhatsApp. You know you’ll always have someone on hand for the first 12 months of your gardening journey.

On the day we’ll expect the gardeners staple - a decent brew, we’ll supply the biscuits or cake to energise us as we go through the morning (let us know your preference before the day). This is practical and hands-on so expect to get your gardening gloves on. To book or check availability please contact us here.

As mentioned earlier this may trigger a passion you never knew you had and you want the next step. Equally this might not be right for you and your looking for a more comprehensive experience or something really specific. I would thoroughly recommend the Norfolk School of Gardening. They have brilliant teachers and oodles of experience and a fantastic range of courses. I’m a big fan!
